The Australian edition of “MacFarlane’s Lantern” was first published in Queensland in May 1980 by Julian Millar, the Australian representative for the Clan MacFarlane Society of U.S.A. and Canada. Interest in forming an Australian Society gathered momentum after the Orange Highland Gathering in 1983 and the first official meeting took place in November of that year in New South Wales. Today the Society is managed by a Committee, based in Victoria with State Councillors in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
Over the years the Society has grown from strength to strength with members in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia kept largely in touch by our quarterly newsletter which is available as a .pdf file. Edited by our President, Malcolm Lobban, a real Scot who knows the MacFarlane lands and history well, its articles are keenly read by those seeking to learn more about their ancestry. It is now hoped that this online community site (established on our behalf by Robert Millar, grandson of our Founder, Julian) will help us to keep in touch with our members between newsletters, and to allow members to communicate with one another.
