2026 – A Guide to MacFarlane Country, Scotland

This travel guide was originally published in 1987 and has undergone several revisions over the years. The current 8-page guide (reviewed and updated in June 2026) includes the following changes:

1. GPS coordinates for each specific site are mentioned. Copy these coordinates into Google Maps, and you will be taken to the exact location on the map.
2. Road distances are now shown both in miles and kilometres.
3. Road names and route numbers have been checked and, in some instances, corrected.
4. All mentioned burial grounds now have a Find-a-Grave reference. If you type ‘Macfarlane’ in as the surname, all listed clan graves will be shown.
5. Trove historical references have been added, some with additional relevant information.
6. References are provided to the work of the Elanvow Preservation Fund (EVPF) on Elanvow and other Macfarlane-relevant sites, including on Inveruglas Isle, in collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland (HES).
7. Information on boat hire and ferries to islands on Loch Lomond has been included.
8. Venue names have been updated in some instances.
